PLASTICS
It’s everywhere! Take a look around you, how many
times did you see or use plastic today? How did it
all start?
Here in North America, plastic has become a huge
part of our everyday lives. I’m willing to bet there
are things you don’t even realize are made of
plastic, like some of the synthetic fabrics you
wear. From furniture, to lunch containers, clothing
and cars - plastics are everywhere...

Deanna will talk about Oh
Canada!, our gorgeous land, what's going on, and some
other great stories. |

Writer:
Deanna Fry, Ajax Ontario
A teacher for 16 years,
an environmentalist and a
volunteer in Ajax for a long time, Deanna loves getting
groups of people together; "good things happen in
communities when people of all ages come together!
Especially when they connect with the natural
environment around them, and take on projects that make
the world a better place." At her current school,
Lakeside Public School,
their
‘Green Group’ helped make Lakeside the 137th
Green School in Canada!
Something special about Deanna:
Deanna has a 21 year old daughter,
Abby, who is an artist living
and
studying
in Halifax, NS, whose creative vision, inspired art and
passion for the natural world enrich Deanna's life more
than she can say.
Deanna's passion: "I love
to hike, go for walks and be outside. I’m so thrilled to
be able to spend this school year working at the Durham
Forest Environmental Education Centre, a residential
centre where grade six classes come to stay for 2 ½ days
at a time. In this wonderful place I get to share my
passion for the environment with my favourite group of
people; children!"
Deanna's message:
“Get
outside and connect with nature. Feel the sun on your
face, the breeze in your hair and the ground under your
feet. Use all of your senses and celebrate these moments
deeply, in your heart and soul. Then let these parts of
yourself guide your choices and actions in life. We are
part of nature and nature is part of us! Let’s choose
and act wisely now so the generations to come have as
much to be grateful for as we do!” |
